Official Review: Volcano LavaTube V2

I’m just going to go ahead and post the official vaping review to save some folks some heartache.

As you have seen, we’ve had some issues. Last week, I picked up a LavaTube V2. Within hours it began having issues contacting and getting a hit, then stopped working all together. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. There is always going to be a lemon in the group.

So yesterday I drove back out to the shop I got it from and swapped it out for a new one, the store owner telling me he’s never seen this before. I agreed it was weird and accepted my new LavaTube.

By the time I went to bed last night – well after I had made the last post about the LavaTube – it began to struggle making contact again. My first thought was, “Oh, no. Not again.”

Sure enough… I got up this morning and never got a single pull out of it. It completely died. Both times, even the screen stopped coming on for any information. They both just died completely.

In the same exact way, and in about as much time.

I am willing to accept lemons in any batch. It happens. But two LavaTubes in a week, both died exactly the same way in the same amount of time? That I can’t accept. Even the store owner did everything he could to try to get it working and see what happened, and it was a no go. We can’t figure out what caused the issue, and I tried everything, even recharging the batteries, loosening the cap a little, you name it.

Official Review Volcano LavaTube V2I searched around online to find out if anyone else had had this issue, and it appears I am not alone. It isn’t a widespread issue yet, but a few people reported loose pieces inside that they had to super glue back in place to get it to work, some having to pry the piece out a bit to get to it. I didn’t want to take the chance of doing this and having it not work and then having it void the warranty.

So today I turned the LavaTube V2 in for the last time. Got my refund after the shop owner tried to convince me to take another one he “knows” works. But I decided not to go this route. I bought this item as a gift to myself for the new job, just went and got something I’ve wanted for a while. The entire debacle took the joy out of it for me, and I wasn’t willing to go through it a third time.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

So we’re moving on. The LavaTube is gone officially now and won’t be coming back. Now we’re moving forward.

I stopped on the way home and bought a ZMax. So now we’ll see how that one does. Hopefully a lot better.

Please note: This is an addition after the fact….

We recently learned that Volcano recalled their Lavatubes for some pretty hefty defects. According to my trusty local Volcano guy, the two I ended up with were part of the batch that was recalled. Seems they moved too fast on a few batches to get them out for Christmas and they all died the same horrible death as mine.

While I will not be purchasing another Lavatube for review, I would hold this information in mind when considering a purchase. And, if possible, try to locate a local dealer. Thanks!
